NewFest is the nation’s largest LGBTQ+ film festival and while the festival itself hasn’t changed much in recent years, the world in which it exists has. The past year alone has brought a barrage of anti-queer rhetoric, proposals to strip back queer rights, and attacks on queer art. That’s where Albert Camus “The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.” becomes a creative platform that turns every part of NewFest, every ticket, every film, every moment, into a bold act of protest.
